The Power of Community

The Power of Community

Hey! Welcome back! I hope you’ve had a great weekend so far. Typical of April, it’s another rainy morning. I’ve been busy and I’m looking forward to things calming down and returning to normal, and the rain should help a bit with that. This weekend I spent the majority of my time away from home with family and friends. Yesterday, we had a surprise baby shower for my brother in law as we anticipate the birth of his daughter. Family and friends gathered to offer gifts, words of encouragement, and reinforce their support as he nears a new stage in life. In those moments, when a community comes together for the benefit of another, we are truly alive and experience the grace of life. Once the celebration came to a close, we said our goodbyes and made our way to see some very close friends. It’s always a treat to spend time with the friends you’ve chosen as family and the moments shared are cherished forever. I am very fortunate to have made the acquaintance of a few individuals who have impacted, and continue to impact my life today.

1. Throughout my journey and the changes I have made, I have been extremely fortunate to have the support of my family and friends. Initially, I wasn’t sure how my decision and desires for change would be received. I was hesitant to talk about my personal development goals, and even more hesitant to talk about my interests of entrepreneurship. The strength and support of our community is a key element in the equation of success. Carrying the approval of loved ones, friends, and role models empowers me to forge ahead and go to battle against my hinderances and fears. With strong support and encouragement from the ones we love and hold close, a foundation exists that we can build ourselves up to levels of no limit. I lean on my family for their support everyday. Sometimes, it’s simply getting “high fives” from my children when I’m working out. The gesture not only lets me know they acknowledge my commitment, but they also approve and recognize my goals to achieve greater levels of health.

2. I realize that not everyone seeking change in their lives will have the luxury of unwavering support, and thus battling through doubt and disbelief will certainly yield additional hardships. In this case, it is critical to surround yourself with other like minded individuals that will offer the support you require. It may take some searching, but communities exist that will accept us without hesitation and work to raise us up collectively. You and I must ultimately decide who, where, and what influences us and take responsibility for the results, or lack of results, that have shaped our current status. We have to let go of blame, cease all thoughts and feelings that imprison us as the victim, and claim control of our life! We must take the necessary actions, and make choices that are in alignment with what we really desire. Hesitation and inaction will only bear more of the same.

3. Our desire for change and improvement must be genuine. Our purpose needs to be clearly defined and a passion to succeed must exist at an organic and cellular level. Simply stating that you desire change and success is never enough. I’ve tried. Several years ago, I bought into a “get rich quick” real estate course. I had absolutely no desire to change internally and I had no intentions of long term commitment without immediate profit. Looking back, the systems and models being taught were definitely valuable and could be implemented to generate income. However, I had no purpose. I doubted the systems, doubted myself, and I didn’t actually want to do the work. I hadn’t hit the bottom yet. I was still in a season of complacency and blame. I wasn’t truly ready to positively impact my trajectory with a clear goal in mind. Years went by, my habits became unsustainable, and I finally realized change was the only option.

If you’re ready, if you can no longer accept the results of your life, take action now! Don’t wait! Write down your goals, define your mission, and take massive action to generate momentum. Rely on your community, mentors, and your own dedication to become more.
