Skid Steer Saturday

Skid Steer Saturday

Welcome back and happy Saturday to you! Hopefully, you got a chance to check out my first installment of the Journeyman Entrepreneur blog. We uncovered most of the basic things about me and what my vision is for this site and this blog. Now, I am excited to bring you along on my life’s journey!

Today happens to be Saturday and there was a lot to do. I stayed up until 02:00am this morning finishing the Prologue of the blog and getting my nightly reading in. Which by the way, I am currently reading a book called The 10X Rule, by Grant Cardone. As we progress in this blog I’ll keep you updated on all the books I am reading and give you my summaries and reviews as well links to grab a copy for yourself if you so choose. Back to what I was saying, I got about 3.5 hours of sleep and had to force myself to stay in bed just a little longer than usual. I am usually up and getting started by 04:00am. Why 04:00am? It is early, especially on a Saturday, but this is the time that I commit each day to my personal and professional growth. This could involve, getting started on the blog, watching training videos, reading, working on my current email and ad campaigns, and planning out my day so I hit my daily, weekly, and monthly goals. This weekend I was fortunate enough to source a skid steer to help me finish taking down an old chicken coop so that it can be rebuilt and brought back to life. I also had a few appointments. I got my truck cleaned by my most trusted detail men in the business, Tanner and Nick at The Detail Shop of Hanover and they did another stellar job for me. I also had a one hour massage. This portion of my day was obviously the most enjoyable. Thank you Katie for taking time out of your Saturday morning, again, for me.

In the Prologue I didn’t mention that I live on a 12 acre portion of a working farm. I do not do any farming but my wife and I are aspiring chicken farmers, gardeners, and apprentices of the art of composting. We have raised many chickens in the past that supplied us with meat and eggs, and unfortunately we have lost every one of our laying hens and our beautiful rooster to predators. Thus, there is a significant need to have a coop that is safe for our chicks. If you ever wondered what it would be like to raise your own chickens, I’ll be sharing with you our trials and tribulations and all the wonderful benefits of having your own free range meat and eggs.

Lets look at the chronological events of semi-typical day here at my home…

1. My day started right here with you at 06:00am. I got up, got a head start on the blog, drank some coffee, thought about what I would title this installment, did some reading, got dressed, and then headed out to get my truck cleaned and get a massage! Afterwards, it was demolition time. I managed to get the entire coop knocked down, cleaned up, and started to layout the footprint of the new coop. I am relieved now, that construction of the new coop can begin and most of the grimy, nasty, and labor intensive parts of the job are done. Also, I know how bad my wife wants this project done so she can start raising a new flock asap. Our deceased rooster, Creep, was very special to her. During the summer, I would often come home from work to find my wife sitting on the patio furniture reading a book with Creep roosted on the arm of the chair right next to her. He really is missed here. So needless to say, I need to kick ass and get this thing done. I know how important it is to her.

2. I haven’t had much of a chance to write about it yet, but my wife and I are disciples of a strict diet and fitness plan. So, once all the craziness was finally finished outside around 5:30pm, it was time to “Embrace the Suck” as I often jokingly refer to as working out. I really have to compliment my wife here and how dedicated she is to her fitness goals. She inspires me everyday to keep going, and I think I just might do the same for her. So today’s work out for me was chest and abs. Not my favorite day in the rotation, but I am getting stronger and results are now visible. Every day the workouts get a little easier and so does the choice. I have finally arrived at a stage in my life where I take pride in that choice. I “embrace the suck” everyday. Because at the end of the day, I just want to be mentally strong. If I can choose to condition and respect my body, I can choose to positively affect anything in my life. I hope that sharing my fitness goals and routines with you isn’t a turn off. I promise never to use this blog to gloat or suggest that anyone should do I what I do. I just simply want to be an inspiration to you, if that’s what you’re looking for. If even in the smallest way I can help you get your mind in the right place, then I have done all that I have set out to do.

3. And finally, now I am back here again with you. At the close of this blog, I will be switching gears and getting back into learning mode. I commit my evenings to studying my training modules, implementing new strategies when applicable, and reading. I have sincerely come to enjoy this part of my day. I am hungry every single day for new knowledge. And there are oceans of knowledge out there waiting to be discovered. If you aren’t already, I would encourage to read at least twice as much as you do now. Even if that means two books a year. It wasn’t all that long ago that I was literally only reading my phone notifications. Now, I am reading 3-4 books a month. Studies indicate that most CEOs in the United States are reading 60, as in six zero, books a year! That is impressive. And I realize now, that practice is directly connected to their success. I have found a few great mentors in a few great books and I just really wish I had found them sooner.

In closing, I hope you are have a wonderful night and I will see you right back here tomorrow!

Here is a list of books I recommend:

1. Take The Stairs, by Rory Vaden:

– The New York Times bestseller that will help you get off the “escalator” or the couch and tackle the work that leads to real success. I personally attribute much of my current frame of mind to this book. I highly recommend!

2. Secrets of the Millionaire Mind, by T. Harv Ecker:

– Secrets of the Millionaire Mind reveals the missing link between wanting success and achieving it! If you really want to know how to think like a millionaire, then this is a must have. I will be reading this book once a month for 12 months.

3. Think and Grow Rich, by Napoleon Hill:

– Think and Grow Rich has been called the “Granddaddy of All Motivational Literature.” This is a great read and another title that I will continually read over and over. The concepts in the pages of this book are deep and the language is pure. Excellent for getting your mind conditioned to succeed.
