28 Apr Don’t Wait. Create.
Hey! Welcome back! I hope you are well. It’s another rainy day here in south central Pennsylvania which means I’m stuck in the cab of my bucket truck. No big deal, it’s a great opportunity for me to write today’s entry and catch up on some emails, trainings, and reading. As you can see, I made the best of the space I have and it’s actually not too bad! Regardless of where I am, or how uncomfortable it may be, I won‘t let it stop me from bringing you a new post everyday. I have come to thoroughly enjoy writing this blog and it‘s a pleasure to have you as my reader! Who knows, maybe one day, I’ll show up at your house in my mobile office to turn your power back on…
1. It’s been a pretty exciting week. To quickly recap, I joined a mastermind, my business made its first profit, and I started my fifth book of the month. All of which I am incredibly proud to report! Six months ago, my life was drastically different. I didn’t read, I had no plan, and I was completely failing to appreciate all the best things in my life. Posting my progress here everyday, helps me to better realize the impact of all the things I am achieving. I truly believe in myself now, and I know it’s not a matter of “if” but “when” success will happen to me. You see, I’m not waiting for a stroke of a luck or a “big break“. I am taking action NOW, and creating opportunities so that all of my goals WILL be accomplished. I don’t always know exactly what I’m going to do next, but I do know that I must take massive action everyday to move closer to my goals. Sometimes it just means rewriting my goals, or reciting my daily affirmations. Each is a powerful tactic that when employed persistently will help to train your subconscious to relentlessly add wood to your fire!
2. Staying motivated isn’t easy. Trust me, I know. I work at it everyday. But it does get easier when you start to see results. By now, I’m sure we can agree that if you want to change your results, you must first change yourself. I want to share with you a little strategy I came up with that has proven to be a financial game changer. Along with being disciplined in my business and physical routines, I knew I would have to discipline my wallet in order to achieve the goals I desire. In Rory Vaden’s book Take The Stairs, there is a common theme that is presented throughout the entire book. “Success is rented, and the rent is due everyday!” I apply this concept literally by charging myself daily rent. Each morning, I open my mobile banking phone app and deposit no less than $100.00 a day into my savings account. I started out doing this 5 days a week and have now transitioned this practice to everyday. Conveniently, on Wednesday evenings, I also move any remaining funds in my checking account to my savings in the eve of my Thursday morning paycheck. Then, every Thursday morning, I charge myself my rent for the day, $100.00, and also move no less than 10% of my paycheck to savings. Based on my debt to income ratio, this system works well for me.
I am particularly fond of this strategy as it has helped me retain more of my money! Who wouldn’t like to have more of their money? The results are massive at the end of each month. I realize that not everyone will be able to save as aggressively, and that’s ok. Find a “rent” that works for you and make sure that your rent is always going up!
3. In business, I am securing the capital I need to really launch myself forward. After all, the job of an entrepreneur is to constantly raise capital. This component of being an entrepreneur is not my favorite, but I do realize it‘s importance. Let’s face it, I‘m a blue collar guy raising a family that hasn’t made the best financial decisions along the way. I’ve overspent, under-saved, and at times was even careless with my credit. In the past few years, I’ve made improvements but I don’t exactly have “business start up capital” just laying around. Luckily, through ENTRE Institute, I was introduced to the folks at Lending America who specialize in helping aspiring entrepreneurs close the financial gap. I won’t go into a ton of detail here, but Lending America differes from traditional banks in essentially every way. They provide practical solutions to help get your business up and running and secure the assets you need to dominate your marketplace. Their lending programs are far superior to that of a traditional bank, mostly because traditional banks won‘t lend to entrepreneurs at all! So, I invested in myself again. In order to get where I’m going fast, I have to accept the fact that I need to get comfortable leveraging other people’s money! This is a big step, and it commits me even further, but I like it! It scares the shit out of me, and that’s how I know I’m heading in the right direction!
I want to thank for coming back everyday and being a part of this journey. You have inspired me to keep going and push the narrative that success is simply the result of your focus. If you would like to share how you charge yourself rent, or how you confront uncomfortable situations and thrive, please don’t hesitate to comment below.
