28 Apr Embrace Positivity
Hey! You’re back! I hope you enjoyed yesterday’s post about Jen Welter. If you didn’t see it, check it out here. Thanks for coming back and I hope your week is off to a great start. I have a new appreciation for Tuesdays as I get to coach my son’s soccer team alongside my wife and daughter. Last week, our first practice was a great success and today was equally fun and productive. It’s really awesome to see the kids learning and working together, implementing new skills, and having loads of fun! I’ll be honest, I like when we play games like sharks and minnows, or red light green light because I get to be one of the kids on the team and relive a part of my childhood. My wife does an excellent job, as the head coach, planning the practices and making sure theres a good mix of drills, games, water breaks, and scrimmages. As the season goes on, I know we will make a positive impact in each of their lives as a coach and a friend!
1. Today started out the same as usual, awake at 04:00am, affirmations, and training videos. Right around 06:00am, I made my way to work and got the day started there about 30 minutes later. It was a productive day, and the weather was perfect. I enjoy the work I do and the final product I leave behind. There is a level of fulfillment that accompanies a job well done and I am fortunate enough to experience that almost every day. As much as I was enjoying the weather and today’s work, I couldn’t help but notice how excited I was to get to the soccer field and help with practice. I kept thinking about how I would greet the kids when they arrived, what I could do to get them to smile, and what would get them to talk about practice in school tomorrow. I couldn’t seem to get it off my mind.
2. Since beginning my personal development journey, I have made a conscious effort to observe my thoughts, and I have focused primarily to diminish the negativity that runs rampant in my mind. While I believe it’s critical to always defend your mind from negativity, I realized today that I felt so much better when I actually focused on the things that aren’t negative. The space for negativity vanished as I focused so intently on how I could be the best version of myself for the kids on the team. My mood and my feelings were lifted all day because I was focused on something meaningful. Let’s be honest, trying to manage a head full of negativity is exhausting. But allowing and encouraging positivity to flow freely through my mind was liberating. Ultimately, once I reached practice, an abundance of joy, gratitude, and appreciation consumed me. I was exactly where I needed to be.
3. If you recall from an earlier post, I mentioned that our thoughts lead to feelings, and our feelings lead to actions. Today, I let myself focus on the way my thoughts made me feel and how I could bring more action from those feelings. I realized it’s not about how much negativity I can resist, it’s actually about how much positivity I can cultivate and promote. I am so grateful for being given the opportunity to volunteer as it’s made me appreciate the situation more deeply. Initially I was just volunteering so my son could play, but now I realize and embrace that it’s part of my purpose and journey. At the end of the day, I want to do good in this world and leave a lasting impact on every person I encounter. I know the kids most likely won’t remember me forever, but that won’t stop me from doing everything I can to make our time together meaningful and fun!
So, it all circles back to mindset. I challenge you to focus on allowing positivity to flow freely in your thoughts and take action on the way it makes you feel. By practicing this, I am confident that you will have much more mental stamina and strength to resist negativity should it arise.
