27 Apr I’m Your Guide
Hey! Welcome back to The Journeyman Entrepreneur blog! I hope you’ve had some time to relax and enjoy the spring weather. Yesterday, Jackson had his second soccer game. What a riot! I was very impressed with the team’s overall improvement from last week’s game and it’s awesome to see their competitive spirit come to life. After the game, we made a short trip over to Gettysburg, PA where we had lunch at one of our favorite restaurants. With full bellies, we made our way to the Outlet Shoppes to do some bargain hunting and uncover any great hidden deals. I was certainly successful as I found a nice windbreaker clearance priced and then marked down an additional 50%! My wife and kids weren’t so fortunate. I guess it was just my day! Eventually, Jackson’s shopping endurance plummeted and it was finally time to go…get ice cream! What kind of day shouldn’t end with ice cream? After a couple scoops from the local creamery and a quick photo shoot with some silly props, we made our way home for a relaxing evening. What a day!
If you missed yesterday’s post “Knowing Why”, I encourage you to read it and discover just a few of the reasons why personal development and entrepreneurship are so important to me. Today, I want to expand on that a bit. I think it’s important to fully understand the purpose and intent of the content I publish. As stated on my homepage, “My mission is to inspire others to achieve success by demonstrating persistence through the application of deliberate and massive action. By sharing my own trials, tribulations, and triumphs I will serve as a guide for anyone seeking to achieve true freedom of time and finance.” Everyday, I focus on vital techniques and strategies that will not only lead to riches in terms of money, but more importantly the riches of mind and spirit to cultivate perpetual wealth.
As of this time, I am still in the growth or startup phase of business. And, in a sense, I’m also in the startup phase of life, too. With new found knowledge and inspiration, I have been mentally reborn and the entire trajectory of my life has been corrected. As I learn and grow as an entrepreneur, I’ll share with you the strategies and techniques I prove to be effective, and I’ll caution you for those that don’t. Essentially, I’ll take care of all the trial and error for you and lead you away from the scammy “get rich quick schemes”. I believe that monetary success can be achieved with speed, and I aim to do so. However, I’m not playing the short game. My goals are focused on long term results and building perpetual wealth for my family and their families. I am fully aware that this won’t happen overnight, similar to a house being built from scratch. The foundation must be strong enough to support the weight of the structure and all the appliances, furnishings, and people that make it functional. Systems must be built and implemented, and a hunger to achieve more must be nurtured.
Entrepreneurship is a fully encompassing journey that requires a desire to constantly consume and actualize new information. Most of us aren’t born into wealth, in fact many of the wealthiest people alive today weren’t either. What sets them apart from most of the world is their burning desire to learn and grow into the best version of themselves. Studies indicate that CEO’s are reading an average of 5 five books per month, or 60 per year. This dominates the standard consumption rate of 12 per year for the average person. It’s worth noting that I used to read ZERO books per year prior to reaching my ultimatum that demanded I seek out new information or remain imprisoned by my less than average habits. Learning is a phase that has no end which means there are infinite opportunities to grow and develop. I think it’s critically important that if we intend to venture into the world of business and entrepreneurship, we recognize our own needs to learn and grow. The most successful people in the world have given us the recipe, we just need to replicate their efforts so we too can become the best possible version of ourselves.
As we learn and digest new information, it’s also important that we retain and truly understand its meaning and purpose. Reading to simply finish is worthless, reading to retain is the ultimate goal. By telling others what you’ve learned, you prove that the information has been absorbed and you are able to effectively communicate it with the world. If you can’t teach what you’ve learned to someone else, I’d argue that the information is truly acquired. This is something I struggle with still, but writing this blog helps immensely to measure my levels of retainment.
So, as I learn and grow, I’ll pass as much information along to you as ethically possible. I’ll continue to consume information at the rate of a CEO, and I’ll share the titles and my thoughts of the books I read. Currently, I’m reading Unshakeable by Tony Robbins, a companion to his book Money: Master the Game, Unshakeable reveals and identifies what’s sucking your retirement savings dry, and what you can do to secure your financial future. If you have a 401(k) plan, IRA, or have thoughts of investing in the stock market, stop everything you are doing right now and buy it! It’s short and to the point and 100% of the purchase proceeds go to Feeding America!
In closing, you can expect the highest levels of transparency from me and count on tried and true information. I’m excited to tell you that I am very close to launching YouTube content and I will certainly let you know as soon as it’s available.
