28 Apr Stay True
Hey! Did you hear the good news? It’s Friday! The weekend will quickly be upon us and all the struggles of the mundane and redundant tasks of our daily grind will finally come to a close. However, we can’t lose sight of our goals or let down our guard. During this brief period away from work, we cannot allow for a stoppage of learning or growth. Let the weekends define who you are. Stay true to your goals, show up for yourself, and take actions that will continue to propel you towards success. Definitely find time to relax and enjoy the freedom that comes with the weekend, but challenge yourself to stand out from the crowd. Don’t permit yourself to fall victim to the mentality and actions of the masses and risk damaging the progress you’ve made. Ultimately, it’s a change in results we seek. If, when the weekend arrives, we default back to our original habits and activities then growth is not a reality. We must stay true to our goals and values and do whatever it takes rise above the naysayers and the negativity!
1. I recently discovered a quote by Kevin Plank, founder and CEO of Under Armour, that literally checks all the boxes for me. He said, “It starts with not having a hangover from the way things used to be.” At first glance, I associated his statement with my decision to avoid alcohol and the negative morning after repercussions of having one too many. But I quickly found deeper meaning and insight to his short and powerful quote. I believe that Kevin’s underlying message is; when you are ready to start, you have to let go of all the things that have been holding you back. Accept that YOU are responsible for everything that has or hasn’t happened, and by continuing to go through the motions, you are only the victim of your own demise. Waking up hungover from the day before just means the results were temporary and had no lasting positive impact. It’s imperative to recognize what causes us to revert back to our ways that keep us from achieving our goals. We must take strides to combat bad habits, negative thoughts, and social influences that will only hinder us from what we value most.
2. Once you discover and accept the behaviors, thoughts, and habits that have deterred you from moving closer to your goals, you must take immediate action to reprogram and train your subconscious to block and prohibit you from reverting to your original mental blueprint. Your mindset is critical. If you feed your mind new and inspirational information you are sure to rise above the negativity and power through the obstacles that used to turn you away from achieving your goals. We have to learn to trust our instincts, face our fears, and combat our negative thoughts with new habits that will empower and inspire us to achieve success. Reading is my primary weapon to defeat my negativity and overcome my natural tendency to rest on my laurels. Forging ahead isn’t easy, but it’s whats necessary to change the trajectory of our life and positively affect the quality of our life. Books like Take The Stairs, audios, and podcasts are a terrific outlet for reshaping and maintaining a healthy state of mind.
3. As the weekend settles in, what we do to maintain our course of achieving our goals will define the true trajectory of our purpose. Allow your dedication and persistence to carry you past temptation and deliver you to the results you desire. For me, this means a lot of things. This journey is fully encompassing and requires me to be vigilant of all my previous tendencies. A challenge that I constantly work overcome, particularly during the weekend, is my desire to eat (overeat) foods that are not in alignment with my physical goals. I have to consciously observe and combat the pressures applied socially and emotionally. This also means staying true to my commitment to remain sober. It would be so easy for me to let down my guard and give in to influence. But I no longer wish to accept the hangover of the way I used to be.
I hope you have a great weekend and that you find the courage to do what’s best for you, even if it’s not popular.
Cheers to your success!
