Time Well Spent

Time Well Spent

Hey! Happy Saturday! It’s a beautiful spring day here…at work. Today, I’ll be writing a portion of this blog right from the driver seat of my bucket truck. For a few obvious reasons, that’s not such a bad thing! Occasionally, when I’m out working to restore outages caused by storm damage, there can be some logistical downtime. Sometimes it’s needed, and sometimes it makes you want to pull your hair out. Usually, I find something productive to do with that time.

1. As fate would have it, my time writing this entry in the bucket truck was short lived. Just a moment after completing my opening thoughts, another outage was in need of our services. Away we went, and busy we stayed for the remainder of the night. Upon completion of our last job, got the green light to come home. I am happy to say that I am now home with my wife and kids. Working long hours is always a tug of war when it comes to incorporating my home life with my job commitments. The culture of my trade demands that, when the lights go out, linemen will be ready and eager to respond. That culture is mostly driven substantial increases in hourly wages and the camaraderie shared on and off the job site. Although my sites are set on many goals outside of work, I do enjoy fixing things and finding creative ways to solve challenging problems. Every storm and every job presents its own set of challenges. How we manage, mitigate, and dominate those challenges is where our strengths reside.

2. With storm work comes a lot of driving. And I mean a lot. I used to allow all the driving to be a burden and I never really took advantage of the benefit of long commutes. In order to maximize my learning potential, stay current on best practices, and continue to development personally, I have adopted the habit of listening to podcasts and motivational speaking while on the road. Doing so allows me to remain focused and discover new implementable actions and strategies. Today, I was introduced to Marley Jaxx. She is a youtube content creation service provider. This episode of Millionaire Secrets was particularly interesting to me, because a YouTube channel is something I definitely need to launch and develop in the near future! Had I not utilized that time, for that episode, I would not have known of Marley and the services she provides that I am now very interested in purchasing.

3. As you can see, I like to take advantage of all the moments in between being a full time lineman, husband, and father to continue expanding my thoughts, knowledge, and perspective. I have become so hungry for new information and tools to be successful in life and business. I realized that there is such an abundance of education available, and I take steps everyday to secure more and more of it. The saying goes, “We are what we repeatedly do.”(Aristotle). I chose to repeatedly gather new information and education so that I may, one day, help others to be a positive impact in their own lives.

Another thing I repeatedly do, READ. I am officially now on pace to finish 5 books/month. I know you have heard me speak on the importance of reading before, and as long as you follow this blog I will continue to express that importance. The reason I revert back to this so often is because of how impactful the books I read, and have read, are on my life. Each book has a similar but unique call to action. When those actions are applied, it can be life changing! Who knows, maybe if you read the books listed in my resources tab, then maybe your life can be  changed too…

Talk to you tomorrow!

Cheers to your success!
